June’s Montessori Principle in Action

~Clean Up Time~

Part of the Montessori method is to teach young children to respect their materials, and clean up after themselves. As a parent, it seems easier to just go behind your child and pick up their toys for them, but what life skill is this teaching them? Montessori strives to teach children how to be independent and take care of themselves. By showing your child how to put their toys, books, and art materials away, it will not only teach your child a life skill of organization and tidiness, but it will also help you have less stress about messiness, and more time for other fun activities! In the linked handout are some examples illustrating how to help your child organize their toys and books at home.
